Apartment 37 is about 25 minutes drive from Faro Airport. Jes will be happy to arrange car hire for you in advance, or you can pick one up on arrival from the numerous desks at the airport.

Things to do in the area

You'll find a guest's guide in the apartment on your arrival listing restaurants, attractions and essential services, but here is some information to give you an idea of just how much there is to do (as well as golf) and to help you plan your holiday activities in advance.

As well as these suggestions, you couild explore the coast and the numerous spectacular rocky coves, visit the historic towns and castles, watch the sardine catch coming in at Portimao, or take a trip up Monchique, the highest mountain in the area, or to Cape st Vincent, The potuguese Land's End at the tip of the wilder western Algarve.

The Entertainment Water Park Slide & Splash was inaugurated on 10 June, 1986. It currently occupies an area of 16,000 acres and is considered the biggest of its kind in the country and also one of the biggest and best in Europe.

Nature trails nearby

Besides the resident fauna, hundreds of rare species, some endangered, live in Quinta do Lago or use this region to nest or to feed and rest on their migratory journeys.
Quinta do Lago has created two Nature Trails and a large hide by the lake, where several species can be observed at close quarters.

Quinta do Lago(40 minutes)
The Quinta do Lago trail was established for visitors who may be more interested in the plant life of the two distinct ecosystems: woods and salt marshland. This trail is about 2.3km (1.4 miles) long and has two stopping points where there are illustrated information boards in Portuguese and English.
The route is marked by posts painted with an orange stripe.

São Lourenço (1 hour)
This trail has been made especially to call visitor’s attention to two different types of wetland: salt marshes and freshwater lakes, as well as to salting tanks dating from the Roman period. The São Lourenço trail is about 3.2km (2 miles) long and has several stations, or stops, with posts painted with a blue stripe. Some locations also have illustrated information boards in English and Portuguese. The trail is the same going and returning (between the beach carpark and the Roman ruins) and we recommend that, on the return trip, you take the chance to look more closely at the whole surroundings. You will be surprised at the number of details you may have missed on the outward leg.

Shopping

'Retail therapy' is available in Quinta do Lago itself with a selection of fashion and gift shops in an attractive shopping area, and there are two larger shopping complexes in Faro and Guia, (Albufeira).

There are plenty of supermarkets in the area, and the local town of Almancil a few minutes drive away has most of the necessary shops and services.

São Lourenço
Golf Course
The superb and well frequented São Lourenço Golf Course, designed by Joseph Lee and owned by Le Meridien Dona Filipa, was recently considered one of the best golf courses in Europe and, in 1993, was voted Continental Europe's third best golf course by the magazine Golf World.

The golf club is unique when it comes to outstanding views, a calm and tranquil setting, and shows nature at its best. The golf club is a member of the Audubon Co-operative Sanctuary System.

The course features large fast greens and undulating fairways which meander through avenues of pine trees. There are some spectacular holes overlooking the sea and bordering lakes abundant with wildlife.
